The Moose

The Plaistow Moose

We commissioned artist Josh Sargent to create a 12′ tall Moose.

Statement from Artist Josh Sargent

As I’ve grown in my craft I’ve begun to try and add movement, and more complex design to my sculptures so they don’t look “Stiff”, also the moose was put together with joinery in such a way that gravity held all of the logs together in place. The weight of the logs pushed the joinery together so that no bolts were needed. I did not add any bolts until the moose was completely carved. Then half inch lag bolts 12 and 14 inches long were used to reinforce all of the joinery mostly so the moose could be lifted and transported without coming apart”

How many pieces is the moose?
The chest to the butt was one log, each set of legs was its own log, and the neck and head were a fourth log.

Are the antlers real?
They look life like, but are poly resin, and created by American craftsmen in the western U.S. this also makes them very good in the outdoors elements.

How long did it take?
Though I didn’t keep real good track a month to six weeks is about right. Moose is burnt with a torch to add color and then sealed with wood preservatives. As far as the breed, it was bred from a cross of a large variety of mammoth crossed with T rex DNA.
